Luka Petrović was born on October 18, 1973 in Trebinje, where he finished elementary and high school. He went in the Army of Republic of Srpska on June 1, 1992 with less than 19 years of age.
At the end of 1993, after obtaining a license from the RS Ministry of Defence he went to Mechanical Faculty of the University of Belgrade .
He completed graduate and postgraduate studies with a high average grade. He started to work at the Faculty of Manufacturing and Management in Trebinje, where was working as an assistant and was teaching subjects related to mechanical engineering for seven years.
As a young and promising engineer, he started working at Hydroelectric Power Plants in Trebišnjica, where he assumed the position of the technical sector manager and then the manager of the investment sector.
After the local elections in 2012, he became a member of Trebinje Municipal Assembly with 1607 votes, winning the highest number of votes amongst all candidates.
Since 2014 he has was the Head of the City Board of the SNSD party in Trebinje.
After the general elections in 2014, he was elected in the National Assembly of Republic of Srpska by winning 9,108 votes, the highest number of votes of all candidates for the National Assembly in the Electoral Unit 9.
He was appointed in 2015 as a Secretary General of the SNSD party.
At the local elections in 2016, he was elected as Mayor of the City of Trebinje with 10,987 votes won.
In the general election in 2018, he was elected in the National Assembly of Republic of Srpska by winning 16,407 votes, the highest number of votes of all candidates for the National Assembly.
He has been nominated as an Acting Director General of Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske since November 16, 2018.
In addition to these activities, he volunteers in various institutions, organizations and sports clubs, and through his experience and unreserved devotion he supports their work.
He is married, and the father of four children.
