Founded in memory of professor Sidney Cox, who had an immense influence on thousands of Dartmouth students both inside and outside his classroom, the Sidney Prize aims to promote undergraduate writing that best meets his high standards for originality and integrity. Presented each year by the Overland Foundation and Dymocks Books, the Neilma Sidney Prize has several categories that are open to different age groups.
The winner of the Sydney Prize is announced on the second Wednesday of each month. Nominations are accepted until the last day of each month, and can be for your own or someone else’s writing. Depending on the category, you may be able to submit an essay, video or podcast. The winning submission is chosen by a panel of judges that includes Overland magazine staff members and writers. The winners receive a cash prize of $5,000, and two runners-up are awarded $1,000. They also get digital subscriptions to Overland and a tour of the newsroom.
